Two local standouts have been named Mississippi finalists for the Wendy’s High School Heisman.
Among the 20 student-athletes still in the running for the state and national award are Lamar School’s Olivia Mabry and Newton County Academy’s John Reiss.
Out of the 45,000 seniors that applied nationwide, 1,002 came from Mississippi which has been narrowd to 10 females and 10 males.
Beginning Monday, one male and one female from each state will be named state winners from which 12 will be named national finalists.

The Raiders won their second straight game in as many days in the Kemper Academy preseason tournament Tuesday as they hammered the Vikings.
Behind Olivia Mabry’s 15 points and Leah Thompson’s 11, Lamar grabbed a 19-3 lead after the first quarter and pushed it to 35-9 at halftime.
The Raiders, who next play host KA on Thursday, led 47-16 after three quarters.
