MERIDIAN —
Despite leading 7-6 at half time, Lamar fell to Simpson County Academy Friday night 28-15 to finish in second place in the MAIS District 4-AA standings.
Lee Martin got things started in the second quarter for the Raiders, as he ran in a touchdown from 7 yards out to put Lamar up 7-0 with 11:54 left in the half.
The Cougars answered back with a score of their own, as Chris Sullivan ran in an 8-yard touchdown less than two minutes later. The Raiders were able to block the extra point, however, and went into the half leading SCA.
In the third quarter, the Cougars struck first. Sullivan broke free from 79 yards out to give SCA the lead 13-7.
Barrett Dudley answered back for Lamar later in the third, as he reached the end zone from 31 yards out to put the Raiders back up 15-13 after a successful two-point conversion.
Dudley led the Raiders with 55 yards on 11 carries, running back Corey Skinner also had a productive night carrying the ball 11 times for 53 yards.
The Cougars rallied back late in the third when quarterback Josh Hankins hit Haden Benton on a 60-yard touchdown pass to give SCA a 19-15 lead heading into the fourth.
In the fourth it was all SCA. Kicker Andrew Berry knocked in a 28-yard field goal with 8:28 left in the game to make the score 22-15. With 1:27 left in the game, the Cougars locked up the win, when Sullivan threw for a 32-yard touchdown on a halfback pass to put the game out of reach at 28-15.

Bulldogs win again, beat S. Carolina in SEC Tournament
Demarcus Henderson and Wes Rea both had RBI singles in the ninth inning to lift Mississippi State to a 5-3 win over South Carolina Wednesday night in the second round of the Southeastern Conference tournament.
The Bulldogs (42-16) loaded the bases with one out before Henderson and Rea drove in runs on consecutive at-bats for the second time in the game.
Mississippi State had beaten Missouri 2-1 in 17 innings Tuesday night, matching the longest game in SEC tournament history.
Reliever Myles Gentry (4-0) limited the Gamecocks (39-17) to a one-out single in the bottom of the ninth.
Gentry pitched 5-2/3 scoreless innings, allowing three hits while striking out eight.
Rea was 3 for 4 while Henderson drove in three runs.
Mississippi State led 3-0 before South Carolina tied it up in the fourth.
Max Schrock drew a bases loaded walk and Brison Celek followed with a two-run single. -

Morgan takes runner-up at Nationals
Meridian Community College golfer, TJ Morgan, from Bruce, MS, tied for the
individual medalist at the NJCAA D1 National Championship held in Lubbock, TX, but lost on the first hole of a playoff. TJ shot 7 under for the tournament with a 76 on the first day followed by 68, 67 and a last round 70. Aksel Olsen from Wallace State Community College won the playoff.
