Russell girls hold on for first win

After scoring a combined five points in the first quarter, Russell Christian Academy and Central Academy fought down the stretch and the Lady Warriors made their lead hold up in a 35-30 victory over the Lady Vikings.

RCA (1-0) received 10 points from Rachel Knight and nine more from Jade McLeod in the win.

Central was led by Alex Dawkins, who scored 10 points.

The Lady Warriors will play Newton County Academy Thursday.

Central Academy hosts Calhoun Academy tonight.

Wayne Academy girls 46
Bass Memorial 5


With the starters on the bench for much of the game, Wayne Academy held Bass Memorial scoreless in the first and third quarters in the rout.

The Lady Jaguars put up 18 and 14 points in those periods, respectively.

Lexi Bowen paced Wayne with 11 points.

Katrina Lofton added nine, while Stevie Farrar had eight.

Wayne Academy takes its perfect 4-0 mark on the road to South Choctaw Academy Monday.
