Lady Raiders win on buzzer-beater

Prep Basketball Scoreboard

After giving up a big third quarter to Oak Hill Academy, the Lamar Lady Raiders clawed back in the final period and won on a shot at the horn.

Margaret Cady led the Lady Raiders with 22 points. Her final two came after the visiting Lady Raiders tied the game at 51 with 8.6 seconds remaining.

Cady took the inbounds pass and went coast-to-coast and nailed a jumper to lift Lamar to the 53-51 win.

Her sister, Mary Grace, put up 14 points for Lamar, while Erin Harrison added seven.

Ally Knowles led OHA with 10.

The 5-1 Lady Raiders will host Starkville Academy Thursday.

Lamar boys 70
Oak Hill 45


Lamar held a 13-point lead after the first quarter and turned it into 25 at the break.

The teams matched each other point-for-point in the second half as the homestanding Raiders dropped Oak Hill to improve to 2-1.

Caleb Holcomb and Daniel Finan pumped in 13 and 12 points, respectively, while Doug Forte tacked on nine.

OHA's Zach Bryan had a game-high 15 and David Matuslack scored 11 in the loss.

Lamar is back in action Thursday against Starkville Academy.

Southeast girls 56
Oak Grove 45


Brittany Roberts pumped in a game-high 22 points to lead Southeast past Oak Grove in the Petal Classic.

April Durden pitched in 11 points and made it a double-double with a dozen boards.

Pashen Thompson also pulled down 12 rebounds to go with her eight points. Rachel Adams added seven for the Lady Tigers, who are now 2-0.

Southeast hosts Kemper County Tuesday night.

Meridian girls 56
Clinton 50


The Meridian Lady Wildcats led by 10 points at halftime and held off a second-half charge by Clinton to improve to 2-1.

The Lady Cats were led by Breaunna Brown's 14 points.

Neeosha Ruffin added nine.

Meridian will be back on the court Tuesday at Northeast Jones.

Wayne Academy girls 31
Prentiss Christian 24


The Wayne Academy girls took home the hardware from the Heidelberg Academy Tournament Saturday afternoon.

The Lady Jaguars held Prentiss Christian scoreless in the second quarter to take a 15-9 advantage into the locker room.

Katrina Lofton led Wayne Academy with 11 points in the contest, which improves the Lady Jags to 3-0.

Wayne Academy will be back in action Thursday against Bass Memorial Academy.

Clarkdale girls 41
Sacred Heart 15


Friday night, the Clarkdale Lady Bulldogs had no trouble with Sacred Heart. The girls gave up no more than six points in any given quarter, leading 25-10 at the half and cruising to the victory.

Duanika Emerson paced CHS with 10 points, while Charmane Tims chipped in eight.

Sacred Heart was led by Nicole Welch's seven points.

The Lady Bulldogs will be back on the court against Nanih Waiya on Tuesday.

Clarkdale boys 66
Sacred Heart 38


The Bulldogs led 17-3 after one quarter and never looked back as they easily won their season-opener Friday.

Kasey Hinton led Clarkdale with 17 points. Russell Roberts had 13 points and added seven rebounds.

Jonathan McMillan scored 11.

In the losing effort, Ty Hughes scored 17 points for the Crusaders.

Clarkdale faces Nanih Waiya Tuesday.
