Roundup - Star seeks basketball, soccer schedules

The Meridian Star sports department is still attempting to compile schedules for winter prep sports such as basketball and soccer. Coaches and/or school administrators who would like their teams’ schedules listed in The Star may fax a copy of the schedule to 601-485-1275 or e-mail to sports@themeridianstar. com. Schedules are needed for area teams in Lauderdale, Kemper, Neshoba, Newton, Clarke and Wayne counties.

The Leake Academy girls basketball team won its second straight game to open the Benton Preseason Tournament on Monday, outscoring Central Hinds 35-7 in the opening quarter as the Rebelettes cruised to the win.

Hannah Peoples led Leake with 11 points and five steals, while Char'Lesa Tadlock added 10 points. Emily Kea, Shelby Howard, Shelbi Horn and Kristin Chipley all chipped in with eight points for the Rebelettes.

Central Hinds was led by Laurn DeMuth's 10 points.

Makenzie Cobb led the Raiders with 12 points and Olivia Mabry and Mary Margaret Arrington each added 9 on Tuesday in Lamar’s home opener. For Laurel Christian, Erin Morgan scored 17 and Alex Lindstrom added 10 points.

Lamar travels to Starkville Academy today.

Daniel Finan and Allen Massingill each scored 17 points to lead Lamar in its season opener. John Holland added 10 for the Raiders. Laurel Christian was led by Luke Morgan’s game-high 22 points and Kennis McNair added 10.

The Raiders visit Starkville Academy today.
