Warriors stay perfect on season

MERIDIAN —     Russell Christian Academy improved to 7-0 on the season, as the Warriors took down Central Academy 45-0 on Friday night.

It only took the Russell Christian 12 plays on offense the entire game, as the game was played with a running clock midway through the second quarter. The Warriors totaled 314 yards on the day.

“Going into my sixth year coaching, I have never been in a game like that,” Russell Christian head coach Nate Ballard said. “I have never in my life seen something like that.”

John Epps got things started as he ran in an 80-yard touchdown to put Russell Christian up 7-0. However, that would be all the scoring the Warriors would get in the first quarter, as Russell Christian was held to single digits in the first quarter for the first time this season.

“You have to give them credit,” Ballard said of Central's play. “Nobody has kept us at seven in the first quarter all year.”

The game wouldn't stay close, as Russell Christian would come out in the second quarter, scoring three touchdowns to lead 28-0 at the half.

The Warriors would add two more touchdowns in the third quarter before kicker Jacob Stephens would put the cherry on top, knocking in a 40-yard field goal to round out the score.

Russell Christian has yet to be challenged on the field this season, and Ballard said he hopes next weeks trip to Marvell Academy in Arkansas will be a good test for his team.
