MERIDIAN —
The Russell Christian football team has been putting a lot of focus on one particular thing in practice this week after failing to score in last week's loss to Alpha Christian. That one thing, according to Russell coach Brent Jackson, is blocking along the offensive line.
"We've been try to improve our blocking," said Jackson. "Right now we feel like that is where we need the most work is with our offensive line. We are just not moving the ball as well as we'd like to be and feel a big part of that is blocking. on the line."
The practices have shown some improvement this week as the Warriors (2-2) prepare to travel to Greenville Christian (0-1) tonight.
"We feel like we've made some improvement this week," added Jackson. "I know Greenville played Central Hinds last week and got beat pretty good, but Central Hinds has got a real big football team. They do have a good quarterback who is quick to the outside and throws the ball well."
Jackson thinks his defense has been playing well and despite the youth at the defensive back position, he thinks they should perform well.
"Our defense as been playing good," noted Jackson. "Since the first week we've had to play some young kids on the corners. They did a good job against and athletic Alpha team. This group this week reminds me a lot of Alpha at the skill position."
Overall Jackson thinks his team is ready to take on Greenville.
"We've had a good week's practice and we feel like physically we are a little dinged up at the running back position," said Jackson. "But overall I think we are ready to play or as ready as we've been."
