MERIDIAN —
The Quitman softball team clinched first place in Division 5-4A on Thursday night, beating Laurel 15-0 in three innings.
Tori Dew led the way for the Panthers, going 3-3 with a home run and a triple. Hannah Hampton earned the win for Quitman, while also going 2-3 at the plate. Chequira Bonner also had a big day for Quitman, going 1-2 and hitting a grand slam in the second inning as part of her 5 RBI's on the day.
The win moves Quitman to 16-5 (7-0) on the season.

West Lauderdale 12, Clarkdale 6
The Knights rallied off of 18 hits, knocking off the host Bulldogs.
Mallory Turner led the way for West, accounting for four hits and an RBI on the night. Sarah Lolley had three hits including a double and four RBIs for the Knights. West had three batters with two hits led by Ashley Adams who hit a two-run home run in the sixth inning.
Clarkdale had five batters with two hits, while Molly McLeod added a home run for her lone hit in a losing effort.
The win improves West to 13-5 on the season, while Clarkdale moves to 12-9 with the loss.

Morgan takes runner-up at Nationals
Meridian Community College golfer, TJ Morgan, from Bruce, MS, tied for the
individual medalist at the NJCAA D1 National Championship held in Lubbock, TX, but lost on the first hole of a playoff. TJ shot 7 under for the tournament with a 76 on the first day followed by 68, 67 and a last round 70. Aksel Olsen from Wallace State Community College won the playoff. TJ was named First Team All-American for his high finish. -
MSU’s Renfroe wins Ferriss Trophy
The first time Mississippi State coach John Cohen saw Hunter Renfroe play baseball, he marveled at his natural ability.
Three years later, he's also in awe of his work ethic. -
