MERIDIAN —
It took eight innings, three hours and 50 combined hits, but the Clarkdale slow-pitch softball team finally outlasted host Southeast Lauderdale 29-25 on Monday.
The Bulldogs scored in every inning, plating six runs in the second, seven in the fifth and four each from the sixth through eighth innings.
Heather Harwell led that onslaught, going 6-for-7 with a home run, two doubles and six RBIs. Shana Elmore added two doubles and four RBIs on four hits, while Lauren Thrash was walked five times. Molly McLeod, Shelby Blackwell, Alex Riser and Breanna Ivey all had three hits.
Southeast, which banged out 21 hits in the losing cause, was led by Nancy Williams, who went 4-for-5 with a home run. Katie Dawson also added four hits for the Tigers, who got three hits, including a home run and a double from Brianna Roulier. Lauren Yeager chipped in with three hits, while Dori Timms smashed a game-tying, pinch-hit, three-run home run. Denisha Knight drew six walks.
Clarkdale, which improved to 5-4, travels to West Lauderdale today, while the 7-2 Tigers host Union.

Madeleine Hodge scored three goals to lead 11 Raiders in the scoring column Monday as they blanked Veritas.
Anna Arrington added two goals, while nine other Raiders chipped in with one goal apiece.
Lamar, which improved to 9-1, is scheduled to travel to rival Laurel Christian on Thursday.

Enterprise falls twice to East Webster
It just wasn't to be.
After 16 innings of big plays and tense moments, the Enterprise Lady Bulldogs fell just short of their third MHSAA Class 2A State Fast-Pitch Softball Championship on Saturday, dropping a 3-1 decision in the decisive game three. But EHS head coach Davey Dewitt said he was pleased with the way his team played, battling East Webster to the last out. -
Richmond leaves Clarkdale for Neshoba Central
Former Clarkdale High School head football coach Chris Richmond is leaving the team to serve as a position coach at Neshoba Central next season. Richmond, who went 1-21 in his two seasons as the Bulldogs head coach said the move to Neshoba will help him stay closer to his family

Neshoba Central’s last two rounds of the state softball playoffs involved grueling series wins over Lake Cormorant and New Hope. And while no one knows what today holds in the Class 5A State Championship Series, the Lady Rockets zipped through East Central like a hot knife through butter in Ridgeland Friday night.
