MERIDIAN —
A second straight MAIS Division 4-AA game and a second straight blowout for Lamar.
The Raiders hammered visiting Sylva-Bay Academy 42-7 on Friday night at Grey Cobb Field for homecoming and, in the process, set up a division championship showdown next week at Simpson County Academy. Lamar is 8-2 and 2-0 in the division.
The Raiders started in a hurry against the Saints as Corey Skinner raced 43 yards for a touchdown with 11:05 left in the first quarter. Less than three minutes later, Skinner scored again from 46 yards out on his second carry of the game. He finished with 139 yards on nine carries.
Fifteen seconds after the second touchdown, Lamar added a third as Lee Martin recovered a fumble in the end zone with 8:26 left in the opening period to put the Raiders up 21-0. Martin added a 10-yard scoring run with 2:36 left in the period.
Lamar tacked on a 6-yard scoring pass from Barrett Dudley to Skinner in the second quarter and a 53-yard touchdown strike from Dudley to Martin in the third. Dudley completed 6 of 9 passes for 123 yards and two touchdowns, while Martin had three catches for 106 yards.
Martin also made five tackles defensively to go along with the fumble recovery and touchdown, while Jesse Seale made 10 tackles and Jonathan Young added five stops as well.
The Raiders have dropped their past three meetings with Simpson, as the Cougars have won the past three division championships. Lamar, though, did beat Simpson 42-28 in the playoffs in 2009 to advance to the state championship game. Simpson returned the favor in 2010 to go along with the regular season win.

Calvary 40 Central 14
Calvary Christian ended its season the same way it started it, with a win against the Vikings. The Cougars end their season at 3-7.
It was all Cougars early, as Calvary scored the game's first 40 points, hammering Central all night.
Quarterback Jeremy McFadden got things started for the Cougars in the first quarter when he found the end zone from 15 yards out to put the Cougars up 8-0.
Later McFadden found Josh Carraway on a 40-yard pass play to put the Cougars on top 16-0.
Roberts came up big for the Cougars again, this time on defense, as he returned an interception 35 yards for Calvary's third score of the night.
Carraway ran in an 8-yard touchdown, before McFadden found him again for a 49-yard score, as the Cougars rolled into halftime up 40-0.
McFadden led the Cougars with 82 yards and a touchdown on seven carries on the ground, and 106 yards and two touchdowns in the air. Carraway had 10 carries for 70 yards and a touchdown as well on the game.

Hollins focused on Spurs, not his contract
Lionel Hollins has been more successful than any Grizzlies coach and will be a free agent after June 30.
He has the Grizzlies in the Western Conference finals for the first time and has won more games with this team than any other coach. -
Slive focused on future after big changes
Mike Slive sprawls in a comfy arm chair, propping his feet on a coffee table between one massive tome on Winston Churchill and an even thicker "Encyclopedia of Southern Culture."
He's relaxed and feeling awfully good about the state of the Southeastern Conference.
It's a rare moment of calm for the SEC's cerebral commissioner, but he can afford it since his "A pile" of things to do has gotten considerably slimmer over the past two years. -
