MERIDIAN —
For the first time since pitching three in 2009, Lamar's defense delivered a shutout Friday night at Grey Cobb Field as the Raiders beat Central Hinds 21-0.
The two teams each had four turnovers with Lamar, which improved to 4-0, losing all four inside the Central Hinds 35.
Still, the Raiders were able to jump on the visitors early, leading 14-0 after one quarter and 21-0 at halftime.
Barrett Dudley, who completed 11 of 16 passing for 126 yards with an interception, put Lamar ahead with a 2-yard run less than four minutes in. Little more than three minutes later, Chase Davis had a 12-yard scoring run.
Corey Skinner added a 2-yard touchdown in the first minute of the second quarter for the final score of the game. Skinner churned out 146 yards on 18 carries as Lamar finished with 272 yards of offense, while allowing just 134 to Central Hinds.
The Raiders next host Jackson Academy and its state-best 24-game winning streak on Friday.

North Sunflower 28
The Cougars evened their record at 2-2, but more importantly opened MAIS 8-Man Division 1 play with a win Friday night against the visiting Rebels.
Calvary turned back the clock to 2009 as the Cougars cranked out 678 yards of offense — 369 passing and 309 more rushing.
"That's what I'm most excited about," Calvary coach Kirby Newell said. "We had balance and it's been a long time since our offense put up numbers like that."
Jeremy McFadden did most of that damage for the Cougars, completing 8 of 13 passes for 369 yards and six touchdowns, while rushing for 154 yards and another score on 16 carries. Josh Carraway added 155 yards rushing on 18 carries, while Josh Roberts hauled in six passes and four touchdowns for 237 yards. His scores came from 22, 30, 4 and 65 yards, while McFadden also hit Carraway on a 48-yard score and Dalton Hill on a 50-yarder.
"We were able to finish it and that was encouraging," Newell said. "For us, it's just a big win."
Calvary now visits division leader Calhoun Academy, who are 4-0 and 3-0, on Friday.

Russell Christian 41
Delta Academy 0
Russell Christian continued its early-season dominance Friday night as the Warriors blanked host Delta Academy.
The Warriors wasted no time, as Ashton Temple took back the first kickoff of the game 80 yards to put Russell Christian on top 7-0.
Next up for the Warriors was running back John Epps, who busted his way for a 53-yard touchdown later in the quarter.
The versatile Kyle Russell continued to pour it on Delta, as he connected with Temple for a 33-yard touchdown to make the score 21-0. Temple would lead Russell Christian with two catches for 87 yards. Following a 54-yard touchdown pass from Warrior quarterback Jacob Howse to Temple, Russell would find himself on the opposite side of a touchdown reception, as Howse hit him for a 17-yard score.
At the end of the first quarter, Russell Christian led Delta 34-0.
“We were in control, but I was never comfortable,” Russell Christian head coach Nate Ballard said. “Delta played hard the whole game.”
Arik Washington ran in a 31-yard touchdown in the third to round out the 41-0 win.
The Warriors were led on the ground by Epps, who rushed five times for 116 yards. Washington carried the ball 12 times for 124 yards.
Leading Russell Christian on defense was Dillon Jones with 12 tackles. Jesse Barksdale also had an impressive game as he recorded eight tackles and recovered five fumbles on the night.
Cartez McDonald plugged the line for the Warriors, tallying eight tackles from the defensive tackle position, while coming up big on two goal-line stands.
Russell Christian (4-0) will return home next week to face North Sunflower.
“They beat us last season, so we got that payback on our mind,” Ballard said. “We need to put together four quarters like the first quarter we played tonight.”

Hollins focused on Spurs, not his contract
Lionel Hollins has been more successful than any Grizzlies coach and will be a free agent after June 30.
He has the Grizzlies in the Western Conference finals for the first time and has won more games with this team than any other coach. -
Slive focused on future after big changes
Mike Slive sprawls in a comfy arm chair, propping his feet on a coffee table between one massive tome on Winston Churchill and an even thicker "Encyclopedia of Southern Culture."
He's relaxed and feeling awfully good about the state of the Southeastern Conference.
It's a rare moment of calm for the SEC's cerebral commissioner, but he can afford it since his "A pile" of things to do has gotten considerably slimmer over the past two years. - More Sports Headlines
