MERIDIAN —
The first rematch of last season’s Class 2A South State championship series turned into a blowout Thursday night at Clarkdale.
The host Bulldogs, last season’s South State runners-up, rallied from an early 1-0 hole to run-rule defending state champion Enterprise 11-1 in five innings.
Clarkdale, which improved to 6-4 overall and 2-0 in Division 6-2A play, took the lead for good in the third and then tacked on six runs in the fourth and three more in the fifth to end it.
While star Lauren Thrash was walked all four at-bats, Shana Elmore and Molly McLeod did plenty of damage for Clarkdale, which had 12 hits total. Elmore finished 3-for-4 with three RBIs and a double, while McLeod went 3-for-3 with three RBIs. McLeod also earned the win in the circle.
Alex Riser added two hits for Clarkdale, which hosts Neshoba Central and Quitman on Saturday.
Enterprise, which fell to 1-1 in division play, was limited to seven hits and the lone run, which came in the first inning. Hayleigh Harper had two hits to lead the way, while Harley Smith took the loss.
