DECATUR — Blake Frazier is the new defensive coordinator at East Central Community College in Decatur, announced Dr. Phil A. Sutphin, ECCC president. Frazier's employment was approved at Tuesday's meeting of the College's Board of Trustees.
Frazier, who currently serves on the defensive staff at Northwest Mississippi Community College in Senatobia, will assume his new duties on April 1 in time for the Warriors' spring workouts.
Brian Anderson, ECCC head football coach, listed several reasons why Frazier emerged as the top candidate to lead the Warrior defense.
"Coach Frazier has been a successful defensive coordinator in this league at Northwest, and he also possesses collegiate experience at Jones County and at the University of West Alabama," said Anderson. "Coach Frazier is (also) regarded as one of the top recruiters in the Southeast by his peers and co-workers. It was apparent to me after speaking with 25 prospective coaches and interviewing the top five candidates, that Blake Frazier was the right choice."
Frazier has spent the past five seasons at Northwest, four of which he served as defensive coordinator. The Rangers were ranked either first or second in total defense for three of his five years at the college.
Prior to joining the Northwest staff, Frazier served as head football coach and defensive coordinator at Cottage Hill Christian High School in Mobile, Ala. He is also a former offensive coordinator and offensive line coach at Taylor County High School in Perry, Fla., and previously was linebacker coach at the University of West Alabama. He began his coaching career in 2001 as defensive line coach at Jones County Junior College.
A McComb native, Frazier is a 2000 graduate of Southwest Mississippi Community College. He received a bachelor's degree in science from the University of Southern Mississippi in 2002 and earned a master's degree from the University of West Alabama in 2003.

Neel then coached the past three years at Wayne County, leading the War Eagles to three straight Class 5A fast-pitch state crowns.
And now, he doesn’t see why the same can’t occur at Quitman. After guiding Wayne County to its third straight championship Saturday, Neel resigned his position in Waynesboro on Thursday to replace Kacie Roberson at Quitman. -

The Drought Is Over
All Mason Irby was hoping for was to find a way on base.
The Southeast Lauderdale sophomore did that and so much more. Irby's single with two outs in the seventh inning broke a tie, lifting the Tigers to a 6-3 MHSAA Class 3A state championship win at Smith-Wills Stadium on Wednesday, and handing Southeast (32-7) its first title since 1966. -
Ramey shines again, hurls Tigers to MHSAA Class 3A crown
The bar was set pretty high.
After all, Southeast Lauderdale senior right-hander Colby Ramey needed just 65 pitches to beat Kossuth in Game 1 of the MHSAA Class 3A state championship game Thursday.
However, according to fellow senior Blake McMullen, Ramey cleared the hurdle Wednesday when he scattered eight hits on 104 pitches to finish off the Aggies in a 6-3 state championship-clinching win at Smith-Wills Stadium on Wednesday. -
