MERIDIAN —
After being the victim of a rout in the first division matchup with Porter's Chapel, Calvary Christian reversed those roles Monday night at Q. V. Sykes. After losing by run rule in the first game, the host Cougars pounded Porter's Chapel 13-4 on Monday.
Matt Seward redeemed his only loss of the season, holding the Eagles to four hits in a complete game to improve to 6-1. Seward allowed just two earned runs as Porter's Chapel took a 2-0 lead with lone runs in the first and second innings. The Eagles then added two in the fifth.
Calvary's offense, meanwhile, pounded out 13 hits with four Cougars netting two hits apiece. Kyle Koch knocked in two runs on a single and a double, while Trey Chapman and Zach Carpenter both had two RBIs on two singles. Gabe Lofton also had two hits, including a double. Justin Sylvester drove out three runs with a double.
The Cougars (14-3, 8-2 in division) face Mt. Salus in doubleheader today to wrap up division play. With one win, Calvary is assured a playoff berth and with a sweep the Cougars would tie for the division title.

The Vikings scored four runs in the second inning and then tacked on three in the seventh to pull away on the road.
Marion Colvin earned the win, improving her record, and the team's, to 12-0.
Corey Dawkins led Central with two singles and a home run, while Lillian Lindsey had three singles and Julianna Person had two singles and a double. Alex Dawkins had a single and a double.
Central hosts Immanuel today.

Mize 0
Emmalee Roberts held Mize scoreless on two hits in a five-inning complete game Monday.
Offensively, the Bulldogs were led by Haley Brooke Smith and Randa Mathis, each ripping two singles and a double.
Bethany Volking and Malauri Robinson each added a single and a triple, while Haylee Roberts had a single and a double. Hayleigh Harper and Blair Hennington finished with two singles each. Enterprise scored eight in the first and seven in the fourth.
The Bulldogs (16-4) host Meridian today.

McClurkin aces Northwood's 11th hole
Joe McClurkin used a seven wood to cover 175 yards on No. 11 at Northwood Country Club. McClurkin was playing with Bill Wolfe, Leon Harris and Jerry Greene when recording the ace.

Taylor Bailey shut down the Wildcats, limiting Pearl River to three hits in the first game shutout Monday at Pearl River. Bailey struck out two in improving to 12-5.
Leading the way for the Warriors' offense was Kasie Buckley with three singles and an RBI, while Paige Holsen and Lauren Nicholas each doubled and singled. Bailey and Brittney Cohran both had two singles and Hailey Chisolm hit a two-run home run and Hannah Lee blasted a grand slam.
In the nightcap, Pearl River erupted for seven runs in the bottom of the sixth with Mykael Maes driving in two runs with a two-out single for the game-winning runs. Pearl River scored once in the fifth, while East Central plated all seven runs in the first.
Bailey took the loss, falling to 12-6 after relieving in the sixth inning. Buckley started, allowing 10 hits in five innings and striking out two.
Summer Alexander's two doubles led the Warriors, who also got a two-run home run from Chisolm. Bailey and Lee each knocked in two with a single.

The Lions allowed just seven hits in the doubleheader in garnering their 20th win of the season. EMCC is now 20-14 and 7-7 in the MACJC North.
EMCC scored three in the first as Hilton Gibson hit a two-run triple and then scored on a groundout before tacking on two in the third and three in the fourth to take an 8-1 lead. Gibson and Derek Beach each had two hits to lead the Lions in the opener, with Gibson knocking in three and scoring twice, and Beach scoring twice.
Former West Lauderdale standout Kameron Heiser improved to 5-1, striking out six and allowing four hits in 4 2-3 innings.
In the nightcap, the Lions benefitted from three Coahoma miscues, two hit batsmen, two bases on balls and a wild pitch to score five times in the second on only one hit.
Meanwhile, Philadelphia product Corey Luke fanned 11 in five innings, while walking three and allowing two hits. It was Luke's first win of the season.
EMCC travels to Northeast Mississippi for a doubleheader today.

The Lions used a sweep Friday to remain in a tie atop the MACJC North Division standings with Itawamba at 12-2. After scoring solo runs in each of the first two innings, EMCC sent 14 to the plate in the third and scored 10 runs. Nashedra Barry and Portia Randle both had a pair of singles and scored twice in the frame.
Celeste Fontenot had three hits, including a double, to lead EMCC's 5-hit attack, while DeShuni Sanders, Justine Jenkins and Mallory Pace all had two hits.
Courtney Nunn earned the win, allowing two hits and striking out eight.
In the nightcap, Barry earned her first collegiate win by scattering four hits in 2 1-3 innings before giving way to Nunn. Nunn struck out six and allowed just one hit over 4 2-3 innings.
Offensively, EMCC (14-25) was led by Sanders, Barry, Fontenot and Leigh Ellen Barefield, all with two hits.

Neel leaving champion War Eagles for Panthers
Eric Neel spent three seasons coach at East Central. The Hornets played in three state championship games.
Neel then coached the past three years at Wayne County, leading the War Eagles to three straight Class 5A fast-pitch state crowns.
And now, he doesn’t see why the same can’t occur at Quitman. After guiding Wayne County to its third straight championship Saturday, Neel resigned his position in Waynesboro on Thursday to replace Kacie Roberson at Quitman. -

RCA’s Lee and pair of Generals chosen for All-Star tilt
Russell Christian Academy senior Camryn Lee and Newton County Academy duo Clay Upton and Dillon Williams will wrap up their senior seasons today.
The local trio will play in the MAIS All-Star Class A game at Smith-Wills Stadium in Jackson at 2 p.m. The Class AA-AAA game will follow. -

The Drought Is Over
All Mason Irby was hoping for was to find a way on base.
The Southeast Lauderdale sophomore did that and so much more. Irby's single with two outs in the seventh inning broke a tie, lifting the Tigers to a 6-3 MHSAA Class 3A state championship win at Smith-Wills Stadium on Wednesday, and handing Southeast (32-7) its first title since 1966. -
Ramey shines again, hurls Tigers to MHSAA Class 3A crown
The bar was set pretty high.
After all, Southeast Lauderdale senior right-hander Colby Ramey needed just 65 pitches to beat Kossuth in Game 1 of the MHSAA Class 3A state championship game Thursday.
However, according to fellow senior Blake McMullen, Ramey cleared the hurdle Wednesday when he scattered eight hits on 104 pitches to finish off the Aggies in a 6-3 state championship-clinching win at Smith-Wills Stadium on Wednesday. -
