MERIDIAN —
Fans will have to wait an extra couple of days to catch a glimpse at No. 1 East Mississippi Community College.
The Lions, the defending national champions and top-ranked team in the NJCAA preseason rankings, postponed their season opener to Saturday at 2 p.m. due to the inclement weather conditions expected from Tropical Storm Isaac.
EMCC and Pearl River were originally scheduled to open the 2012 season at 7 p.m. Thursday at Sullivan-Windham Field.
The Lions routed the Wildcats in Poplarville last season on the way to winning the school’s first national championship. EMCC head coach Buddy Stephens and defensive coordinator William Jones were assistants at Pearl River before leaving for Scooba.
MCC soccer games rescheduled
Meridian Community College has rescheduled a pair of games against host Mississippi Gulf Coast. The games have been moved to Oct. 15 at Perkinston. The MCC women play at 5:30 p.m. and the MCC men take to the field at 7:30 p.m.
MCC return to action Sept. 5 at home against Jones County Junior College. The MCC women battle JCJC at 5 p.m. and the men follow at 7 p.m.
JCJC, ECCC soccer matches postponed
ELLISVILLE — Today’s East Central Community College at Jones County Junior College soccer matches have been postponed, and a makeup date has not been scheduled.
Decisions on Friday’s Northwest at JCJC matches and Saturday’s Polk State College (Fla.) at JCJC women’s match will be made soon.
JCJC moves first football game to 4 p.m. on Saturday
ELLISVILLE — Thursday’s Holmes Community College at Jones County Junior College football game has been moved to Saturday with a 4 p.m. kickoff.The game was originally scheduled for 7 p.m. on Thursday.

Enterprise falls twice to East Webster
It just wasn't to be.
After 16 innings of big plays and tense moments, the Enterprise Lady Bulldogs fell just short of their third MHSAA Class 2A State Fast-Pitch Softball Championship on Saturday, dropping a 3-1 decision in the decisive game three. But EHS head coach Davey Dewitt said he was pleased with the way his team played, battling East Webster to the last out. -
Richmond leaves Clarkdale for Neshoba Central
Former Clarkdale High School head football coach Chris Richmond is leaving the team to serve as a position coach at Neshoba Central next season. Richmond, who went 1-21 in his two seasons as the Bulldogs head coach said the move to Neshoba will help him stay closer to his family

Neshoba Central shuts out East Central 8-0
Neshoba Central’s last two rounds of the state softball playoffs involved grueling series wins over Lake Cormorant and New Hope. And while no one knows what today holds in the Class 5A State Championship Series, the Lady Rockets zipped through East Central like a hot knife through butter in Ridgeland Friday night.
