The Quitman High School softball team took down Enterprise High School 16-5 Tuesday night.
The Panthers were led by Glennella Odom, who went 3-3 with two home runs and five RBI's on the night. Odom was one of four Panther players to hit home runs on the night; Tori Dew, Mallory Lee and Annie Cooks were the other three. Lee's grand slam was the final blow, as it gave the Panthers a 10-run lead to to induce the mercy rule.
Hannah Hampton went 2-3 for the Panthers while earning the win on the mound.
Harley Smith led the the Bulldogs in a losing effort, going 2-3 with two doubles. Hayleigh Harper also had two hits for Enterprise.

Newton County 18
Florence 3
Newton County strung together nine consecutive two-out hits in the first inning and hammered visiting Florence 18-3 in a Division 6-4A softball game Tuesday night in Decatur.
It was the 65th consecutive victory for the Cougars dating back to the 2010 season. Newton County is 20-0 this season. Fifteen Cougars, including all 11 starters, had hits in the contest and Newton County erupted for 13 runs in the first inning.
Ashton Lampton led the charge with a solo home run and an RBI single, while Hannah May singled, doubled and drove in three runs.
RoNeisha Brown had two hits and an RBI; Ashley Gressett had a single, double and an RBI; and winning pitcher Meagan Higginbotham (18-0) had a two-run double and a single. Latesia Davis, Darby Bishop and Shea Alexander all had RBI triples; Mary Snowden, Savannah Gates and Madison Scoggin all had RBI singles; and Shelby Barrett, Triniere Walker, Cassidy Blount and Shaylon Farmer all had hits.
Newton County, which is now 5-0 in division play, goes to Richland on Thursday.
The Cougars out-hit Florence 19-5.

Titles nothing new for Newton County
Newton County captured its seventh fast-pitch state championship, outscoring defending champion Houston 26-3 in two games. The Cougars took home the title despite not having a single senior on their roster –– still, few were surprised.

Morgan takes runner-up at Nationals
Meridian Community College golfer, TJ Morgan, from Bruce, MS, tied for the
individual medalist at the NJCAA D1 National Championship held in Lubbock, TX, but lost on the first hole of a playoff. TJ shot 7 under for the tournament with a 76 on the first day followed by 68, 67 and a last round 70. Aksel Olsen from Wallace State Community College won the playoff. TJ was named First Team All-American for his high finish. -

The first time Mississippi State coach John Cohen saw Hunter Renfroe play baseball, he marveled at his natural ability.
