MERIDIAN — Northeast Lauderdale's baseball team exploded for 12 runs in the third inning Saturday as the Trojans blasted the host Cougars 19-1.
Northeast, who improved to 4-1, scored two in the first and added five in the fourth, while Newton County (3-2) scored its lone run in the third.
Johnny Huntley led the Trojans with three hits and three RBIs, while Ethan Holloway added four RBIs on two hits. Ismael Reyes, who earned the win on the mound, also drove in two runs on two hits.
The Trojans host Quitman on Tuesday in the Division 5-4A opener, while the Cougars visit Richland on Tuesday.

Enterprise 5
Clarkdale 4
After being shutout for three innings, Enterprise ralled past host Clarkdale with three runs in the fourth and then lone tallies in the fifth and sixth Saturday at the Clarkdale Invitational.
Clarkdale scored one in the first and then knotted the game with three in the fifth.
Seth Kidd blasted a three-run home run for Enterprise (2-2), while Ethan Williams had two RBIs.
Enterprise hosts Mize on Tuesday, while Clarkdale visits Heidelberg.

JUCO SOFTBALL
East Central 4-10
Holmes 2-1
The Warriors overcame an early 2-1 hole in the first game, tying the game in the fourth and then adding a pair of runs to win it in the sixth on the road Saturday.
East Central got three hits, including a double, and an RBI from Hailey Chisolm, while Kasie Buckley and Brittney Cochran each doubled and drove in a run.
Taylor Bailey improved to 5-1 on the mound, allowing seven hits in seven innings, while striking out three.
In the second game, the Warriors scored six in the first on the way to the blowout win in five innings.
Sierra Farlow had three hits and an RBI for East Central, while Lauren Nicholas and Summer Alexander each had two singles. Bailey homered and had a pair of RBIs for the Warriors, who improved to 12-1-1.
Buckley earned the win, improving to 7-0, allowing four hits in three innings.
East Central visits Mississippi Delta on Monday.

SCOOBA — A late first-game rally fell short for the home-standing East Mississippi softball team, as the story for the Lions in Saturday’s opening game was their inability to get timely hits with runners on base.
While the Bears notched solo runs in the second, fifth, sixth and seventh innings off EMCC's Courtney Nunn, the Lions left the bases loaded in the fourth and fifth innings.
After Southwest took a 4-0 lead in the top of the seventh, EMCC was finally able to break the ice in its half of the final frame. After hits by Portia Randle, her third hit, Celeste Fontenot and Mallory Pace, Cayla Coleman flied to center field for the second out, but Nashedra Barry singled to right to score two runs. However, Nunn struck out looking to end the rally.
Barry and Fontenot each had a pair of singles. EMCC stranded 11 runners on base, including six in scoring position.
The Lions managed only four singles in the second game. Coleman, a former Clarkdale standout, had a pair of singles.
The 2-19 Lions host Northeast Mississippi on Tuesday.

LATE PREP BASEBALL
Newton County 6
Stringer 2
The Cougars scored three runs in the first inning and never looked back against Stringer in the Clarkdale Invitational on Friday. While Stringer scored two in the fifth, Newton County added two in the fifth and one in the sixth.
Zack May led the Cougars' nine-hit attack with two hits, including a double. Xavier Franklin, who earned the win, also had two hits, including a double. Jordan Walker also notched a pair of hits for Newton County.
Will Brand took the loss for Stringer.

Clarkdale 1
Newton County broke open a 1-1 tie with five runs in the sixth inning against the host Bulldogs on Friday in the Clarkdale Invitational. The Cougars scored their other run in the first, while Clarkdale countered with a run in the fifth.
Nolan Thorne earned the win for the Cougars, while Cody Wall suffered the loss for the Bulldogs.
Franklin and Hunter Phillips both led Newton County with two hits.
