MERIDIAN —
The Southeast Lauderdale Tigers scored seven unanswered runs in the final two innings of play to take a 10-6 victory against Choctaw Central in local slow-pitch softball ball action Tuesday night at Tiger Field. The Tigers improved to 13-6 overall with the four-run victory against the Warriors, but most importantly Southeast kept its District 3-5A perfect by moving to 3-0.
“We scored some big runs down the stretch and played a good quality opponent tonight,” said Southeast head coach Mack Fanning. “We made some mistakes at times and we still have a few things that we need to improve on, but getting a win over a solid team is a plus.”
The Tigers scored the first run of the contest in the bottom of the second inning. Timara Trussell led the inning off with a double and later crossed the plate on a double by Katie Dawson to give Southeast the early lead.
The Warriors answered with a pair of runs in the top of the third inning to snatch the lead away from Southeast. Betty Mingo reached base on a single and Candance Jefferson followed with a double to put a pair of runners on base for Choctaw Central. Jada Sockey drove both runs in for the Warriors by smashing the ball to deep right field to make the score 2-1. The ball deflected off the of the glove of Shakira Shoemaker in right field and both runs came with two outs in the inning for the Warriors.
Southeast answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth inning take the lead once again by a score of 3-2. Trussell led the inning off with a solo home run and second run of the inning came on an infield error by the Warriors.
Choctaw Central scored three more runs in the top of the fifth inning to make the score 5-3 in favor of the Warriors. Mingo drove a run in on an RBI single, while Jefferson and Sockey both had run scoring sacrifice flies in the inning.
Southeast Lauderdale put the game away for good with seven runs to take a 10-5 lead against Choctaw Central. Lauren Yeager picked up an RBI single in the fifth inning, while Nancy Williams added a three-run home run in the four-run fifth inning for the Tigers. Southeast added its final three runs of the contest on a three-run home run by Denisha Knight in the sixth inning to make the score 10-5.
Choctaw Central added on run in the seventh inning on a double by Sockey, but the Tigers held on for the 10-6 victory.
Southeast was led at the plate by Trussell with three hits and Briana Roulier added three hits in the victory for the Tigers. Choctaw Central was led at the plate by Sockey with a pair of doubles, while Raina King added a pair of singles in the loss for the Warriors.

Morgan takes runner-up at Nationals
Meridian Community College golfer, TJ Morgan, from Bruce, MS, tied for the
individual medalist at the NJCAA D1 National Championship held in Lubbock, TX, but lost on the first hole of a playoff. TJ shot 7 under for the tournament with a 76 on the first day followed by 68, 67 and a last round 70. Aksel Olsen from Wallace State Community College won the playoff. TJ was named First Team All-American for his high finish. -

Enterprise falls twice to East Webster

After 16 innings of big plays and tense moments, the Enterprise Lady Bulldogs fell just short of their third MHSAA Class 2A State Fast-Pitch Softball Championship on Saturday, dropping a 3-1 decision in the decisive game three. But EHS head coach Davey Dewitt said he was pleased with the way his team played, battling East Webster to the last out. -
Richmond leaves Clarkdale for Neshoba Central
Former Clarkdale High School head football coach Chris Richmond is leaving the team to serve as a position coach at Neshoba Central next season. Richmond, who went 1-21 in his two seasons as the Bulldogs head coach said the move to Neshoba will help him stay closer to his family
