Newell P. Barfield

MERIDIAN —     Services for Newell P. Barfield will be held Saturday, at 1 p.m., at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home Chapel with Revs. Jamie Lamoreaux and Tom Wood officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery with Robert Barham Family Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

    Mrs. Barfield, 95, of Meridian, died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013, in Madison. She was a founding member of Briarwood Baptist Church. Mrs. Barfield formerly worked at Loeb’s. She was mostly a full-time mom and loved sewing and gardening. She also enjoyed listening to country music and Elvis.

    Survivors include her daughter, Ricki Barfield Barbuto and her husband Richard of Madison; five grandchildren: Danny Clay and his wife Shannon of Meridian, Danei Clay Stager of Meridian, Adrienne Barbuto Mobley and her husband Luke of Laurel, Rachel Barbuto O’Neil and her husband Hollis of Madison, and Amy Barbuto of Punta Gorda, Fla.; numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and sister, Jean Neil of the Damascus Community (Kemper County).

    She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Barfield; daughter, Jeri Barfield Clay; brother, Ray Peden; and, sisters: Doris Vick and Verna Pippin.

    The family requests memorials be made to Briarwood Baptist Church.

    Pallbearers will be Larry Vick, Mickey Vick, Danny Clay, Randy Pippin, Travis Peden, Luke Mobley and Tommy Hammack.

    Visitation will be Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the funeral home.
