Vernon Joe Slaughter

MERIDIAN —     Services for Vernon Joe Slaughter will be held Thursday, at 1 p.m., at Houston Funeral Home, Houston, Miss. Burial will be in Wesley Chapel Cemetery, Chickasaw County, with Robert Barham Family Funeral Home and Houston Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

    Mr. Slaughter, 73, of Houlka, formally of Meridian, died Monday, Oct. 8, 2012, in Little Rock. Mr. Slaughter was born and raised in Houlka. He moved to Meridian in 1976. Mr. Slaughter was a Veteran of the U.S. Air Force and worked for ICG Railroad.

    Survivors include his wife, Janalee Slaughter of Meridian; children: Bonnie Slaughter-Acosta and her husband Dr. Scott Acosta, Ronnie Slaughter and his wife Andrea, Brenda McMullen and her husband Sonny, Linda Slaughter, Glenda Brown and her husband Mike, Georgia Chaney and her husband Barry, Robbie Slaughter and his wife Cindy, Ricky Slaughter and his wife Mandy, Rebecca Harris and her husband Jason, Barbara Ridley and her husband Rodney, and Russell Slaughter and his wife Sabrina; 38 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sisters: Ethel Vance, Paulette Camp, and Sherron Murphree and her husband Bill; sister-in-law, Sheila Slaughter;  favorite niece, Joyce Ann Camp; and, nephews: John Camp Jr., Billy Wayne Vance Jr., Robert Linn Murphree, and Tabb Murphree.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, Ruben and Eula B. Slaughter; brother, Michael Slaughter; brothers-in-law: John Camp Sr., and Billy Wayne Vance Sr.; and nephew, Donald Joe Camp.

    Visitation will be Wednesday, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home, and Thursday, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Houston Funeral Home in Houston, Miss.
