Paul Edward Chunn
PHILADELPHIA — Services for Paul Edward Chunn will be held today at 11 a.m. at McClain-Hays Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Roy Wolfe and Dennis Duvall officiating. Burial will be in Cedarlawn Cemetery.
Mr. Chunn, 83, died Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2007, at Alliance Laird Nursing Home in Union. He was a native and longtime resident of the Deemer Community of Neshoba County. He was former operator of Chunn Grocery on Deemer Road, game warden, salesman for Cole Bros., and insurance agent for McClain-Hays Funeral Home. He was a member of Southside United Methodist Church. Mr. Chunn was a former Mason, Philadelphia Lodge, city alderman & police commissioner, Lions Club member, hospital board member, and Toastmasters Club member. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army 32nd Infantry during World War II and was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star.
Survivors include his wife, Oleta Chunn of Philadelphia; four daughters, Betty Carter of Birmingham, Ala., Paulette Brackin of Philadelphia, Pam Gomillion of Brandon, and Retta White of Union; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three sisters, Martha Conn and Mary Eldridge both of Philadelphia, and Aline Fairchild of Meridian; two brothers, Herman Chunn of Philadelphia and Gordon Clifton Chunn, Jr, of Meridian; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Warren Jenkins, Eric Copeland, Dalton Brackin, Jason Gomillion, Elliot Ryals, Paul White, Kyle Carter, and Patrick Finney.
Hodgen Parke Montague
NEWTON — Graveside service for Hodgen Parke Montague will be held at the Newton County Memorial Gardens Cemetery Friday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Dr. Tom Sikes officiating.
Mr. Montague, 101, died on Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2007, at Woodland Court Personal Care Home in Newton.
Mr. Montague was a native of St. Louis and was educated at Sol Dan High School and the University of Missouri. He moved his family to Clinton in 1939 and lived there until a move to Jackson ten years later. He was manager of the fixture plant for Jitney Jungle stores and ultimately was named a Vice President of Jitney Jungle, Inc. He was a member of First Christian Church in Jackson for 60 years and served as Chairman of the building committee for the church facility on North State and High Streets and was a member of First Christian Church in Meridian.
In later years, Mr. Montague and his wife moved to Newton to be near their daughter and her family. He continued to work until the age of 80 years; in Newton for Tatum Concrete Company as a general contractor.
His quest for knowledge never ended. He was an avid reader and accumulated a vast library of books on many subjects, always eager to learn more. He was especially interested in history and genealogy.
Survivors include daughter Betty Chapman and her husband, James Walter, of Newton; grandchildren, Kent M. Culverhouse of Roswell, Ga., Lynne C. Kenna of Forest, Clay Chapman of Newton and four great-grandchildren, Drew and Ben Kenna, Haley and Kelly Chapman.
He was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 73 years, Nelle, and one son, Hodgen Jr., who was lost at sea in 1955 off the coast of Japan.

Visitation will be Friday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Arthur Alvin Adams
ALENTOWN, Pa. — Services for Arthur Alvin Adams “King Arthur” will be held Friday from 6 p.m.- 8 p.m. at St. Joseph Church Kerher Hall in Meridian, Miss. Life Quest Anatomical is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Adams, 67, died on Wednesday October 24, 2007. He born April 12, 1940, to Norman and Lula Adams. He was a longtime resident and native of Meridian.
Survivors include his daughters, Adriene Ann Adams Shelby and her husband Rodney, April Adams Morris and her husband Brandon, Sherelle Grogan; his sons, Arthur Aundre Adams, and Arfonzo Alex Adams; grandchildren, Austin Adams, Brandi Morris, and A’trell Grogan.
James B. Towner

Services for James B. Towner will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Union Kemper Spring Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert Coates officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Berry and Gardner Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Towner, 60, of DeKalb, died Monday, Oct. 29, 2007, in his home.
Visitation will be Friday from 6 p.m.- 7 p.m. at the funeral home and Saturday one hour prior to the service at the church.
Marjorie Jane Cook
HOUSTON, Texas — Funeral service for Marjorie Jane Cook will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Brookside Funeral Home Cypress Creek Chapel. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery next to her husband, Ferris.
Mrs. Cook, 84, of San Antonio, died Sunday, Oct. 28, 2007, in Houston. She was married for 56 years to Dr. Ferris E. Cook Jr, who preceded her in death. She was born in Chicago, on April 25, 1923, the daughter of the now late John E. Nelson and the late Eleanor E. Roloff, both of Chicago. She entered Nursing School during World War II in New York City and while working as a nurse she met the love of her life (Ferris) in 1948. They were married a year later in California. As the wife of an Air Force physician, Marjorie raised three children, was active in the Officer’s Wives Club, and enjoyed traveling. After her children were grown, she sold residential real estate in Ft. Worth and San Antonio. Her sense of humor, sweet disposition, and love of family will be greatly missed.
Survivors include her children, Jeffrey and his wife, Kerry, Michael and his wife, Rosanne, and Mary Ann and her husband, Leif; grandchildren, Anderson “Shereen”, Lacey, Sarah, Viktoria, Michael, Timothy, and Gregory; her sisters Loraine and Phyllis, both of St. Petersburg, Fla.
Visitation will be held Friday 6 p.m.- 8 p.m., at the funeral home.
Peggy Louise Keyes Gray Smith
TALLULAH, La. — Services for Peggy Louise Keyes Gray Smith were held Monday at 11 a.m. at Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Johnny Magouson and John Rushing officiating. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mrs. Smith, 62, died Saturday, Oct. 27, 2007, at the Olive Branch Senior Care Center. She was born on March 14, 1945. She was a native of Tallulaha and graduated from Tallulah High School in 1964. She was a member of the First graduating class of the Tallulah Vocational Technical School in 1978. Continuing her education, she attended the Meridian branch of Mississippi State University and graduated from the Dale Carnegie Course.
She began a newspaper career as advertising manager at the Madison Journal in Tallulah in 1965. She worked at The Meridian Star for 11 years as an advertising account executive, where she won numerous awards for her advertising layouts by the Mississippi Media Professionals, Mississippi Press Association and the National Federation of Press Women. She served in all offices,with the exception of treasurer in Mississippi Professionals, including president for almost two years. She was the secretary at Comfort Heating and Air in Shreveport, from 1997-1999 and again from 2001-2004 until her retirement in March 2004, due to her health.
Survivors include her son, John Lee Smith Jr. and his wife, Alaina Elashewich Smith, of Bossier City; grandchildren, Sara Samantha Smith of Bossier City and Joshua Bryan Smith of Slidell; brothers, Joseph Franklin Keyes Jr. of Farmerville, Edgar Ray Keyes Sr. and his wife, Susan, Charles Edward Keyes Sr. and his wife, Vickie, all of Tallulah and Robert Wayne Keyes Sr. and his wife, Cindy, of Utica; sisters, Katherine Marie Hurley of Monroe, Betty Lou Miles and her husband, Huey, of Goodwill, Mary Jeanette Boman and her husband, Bennie, and Marilyn Ann Armstrong and her husband, Bob, all of Quitman, Miss., Sandy Lynn Bowden and her husband, Lloyd, of Gunstown, Miss.; several nieces, nephews, great-nephews and great-nieces and one great-great-niece; her best friend, Jan Fisher of Chunky and a very special family friend, Becky Deckard, of Tallulah.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Marla Michelle Smith; her parents, Joseph Franklin Keyes Sr. and Emma Viola Bearden Keyes; grandparents, William Edgar Bearden and Rosie Carrie DeCota Bearden; a nephew, Barry Allen Armstrong and a great-nephew, Justin Michael Boman.
Memorials may be made to the M.D.A. Association or the Olive Branch Senior Care Center in Tallulah.
Pallbearers were her nephews, Dale Boman, Michael Bowden, Bo Boman, Charlie Keyes, Dusty Keyes and Bobby Armstrong. \
