Charles Edward Wilson



Services for Charles Edward “Charlie” Wilson will be held today at 3 p.m. at Barham Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Russell Luquire officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Mr. Wilson, 84, of Meridian, died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2007, at Aldersgate Retirement Community. He retired in Meridian which had been his home for more than 40 years. He retired after a long and distinguished career with Roadway Express. He was a 32nd degree Mason. He will be sadly missed by his family, cherished friends, staff and residents at Aldersgate and Serenity Hospice LLC.

Survivors include his daughters, Charlotte W. Thompson and her husband, Wayne, of Franklin, Tenn. and Mary Bennie Wilson of Brentwood, Tenn.; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline Wilson; his parents, Charles E. and Nora Jane Wilson.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

Visitation will be today one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.



Gloria Talbert Hughes



Services for Gloria Talbert Hughes will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Gum Log Primitive Baptist Church with the Revs. Jerry Wilkinson and James Allen officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Hughes, 70, of Bailey, died Friday, Feb. 2, 2007, in her home. She was a homemaker and a 4-H leader for more than 40 years. She was a member of Volunteer Homemakers local and county officer, a member of Centerhill Community Development Club for more than 53 years serving as a past officer. She was member of Centerhill Golden Ages Club, Gum Log Primitive Baptist Church, where she was the clerk for more than 30 years.

She was an accomplished seamstress, loving wife of more than 52 years, a loving mother who cherished the Lord, family and community. She enjoyed reading, gardening, trail riding and going to her families’ ballgames. Community service was a very important part of her life.

Survivors include her husband, Robert Franklin Hughes of Bailey; daughters, Robbie Hughes McKee and her husband, Don, and Judy Hughes Rutledge, and her husband, Kenneth, all of Bailey, Angela Hughes McCoy and her husband, Jason, of Columbus; grandchildren, David Lee McKee and his wife, Jennifer, Brad Logan McKee all of Bailey, Myles Albert McCoy of Columbus, Keeley Brooke Rutledge, Kirby Britt Rutledge, all of Bailey; a sister and special friend, Martha Talbert and Ray Hill of Bailey.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Elder W.T. and Edna Talbert and a grandson, Frost McCoy.

Memorials may be made to a charity or organization of choice.

Pallbearers will be David McKee, Brad McKee, Greg Hodges, Mac Hodges, Adam Hodges and Terry Gressett.

Visitation will be today from 5 p.m.-8 p.m. at the funeral home.



Pete Giesbrecht



MACON — Services for Pete Giesbrecht will be held Sunday at 10 a.m. at Morning Star Church of God in Christ Mennonite Church in Gieger, Ala. Burial will be in Soule Chapel Cemetery in Gieger. Cockrell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Giesbrecht, 87, of Brooksville, formerly of Scooba, died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2007, at Oakwood Manor Nursing Home of Brooksville. He was born in Winton, Calif. and was raised there. He lived in various places in California where he was employed as a house mover. While living in California he married Edna Edith Jantzen and raised four children. Later they moved to Kansas where they lived for seven years before moving to Mississippi where he spent most of the rest of his life as a farmer. In his sunset years, he married Josie Koehn of Livingston, Calif. While living in Oakwood Manor he enjoyed woodworking on small wood projects. He was a lifelong member of the Church of God in Christ Mennonite Church.

Survivors include his daughters, Lezetta Koehn and her husband, Steve and Susie Koehn and her husband, Delbert, all of Brooksville and Maxine Giesbrecht of Scooba; a son, Dale Giesbrecht and his wife, Lorna, of Scooba; 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; sisters, Sarah Friesen and her husband, Jake, of Buhl, Idaho and Mary Unruh of Bonner’s Ferry, Idaho.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Cornelius V. and Katherine Fast Giesbrecht; his wives, Edna Edith Jantzen Giesbrecht and Josephine Koehn Giesbrecht.

Memorials may be made to Oakwood Manor Nursing Home, 355 N. Pine Street, Brooksville, MS 39739.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons.

Visitation will be today from 7 p.m.-8:30 p.m. at the church.

NEWTON — Services for Johnie Bryan “J.B.” Seal will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church in Poplarville with the Revs. Jimmy Albritton and Floyd Davis officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. James F. Webb Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Seal, 75, of Poplarville, died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2007, in his home.

Survivors include his wife, Sue Seal; sons, Bryan Seal and Stephen Seal and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his son, Lauren Howard “Larry” Seal.

Visitation will be today from 5 p.m.-8 p.m. at White Funeral Home in Poplarville.



Kenneth Zachary Sloan/Marks



QUITMAN — Services for Kenneth Zachary Sloan/Marks will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Wright’s Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ernie Manning officiating. Burial will be in Archusa Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Quitman.

Infant Kenneth, 10 months, died Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2007, in Stonewall.

Survivors include his parents, Tabitha and Robert Sloan; a sister, Raquel Sloan, all of Enterprise; maternal grandparents, Cindy and Gerald Marks of Enterprise; paternal grandparents, Henry and Dorothy Odom of Stonewall; maternal great-grandmother, Kathryn Marks of Meridian; paternal great-grandmother, Rosie Odom of Meridian; uncles, Dewayne Perry and his wife, Dorothy Dearman of Enterprise and David Staszefski and his wife, Barbara of Energy.

Pallbearers will be David Sloan, Henry Odom, Robert Sloan and Dewayne Perry.

Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. today at the funeral home.



Charlotte Byrd Stack Ward



Graveside services for Charlotte Byrd Stack Ward will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Mt. Carmel Cemetery with the Revs. Olyn Roberts and Jessie Napp officiating. Stephens Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Ward, 55, of Meridian, died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2007, at Heartfelt Hospice. She worked as a salesperson in real estate, was an appraiser in real estate and was also a broker. She was Meridian’s Woman of the Year in 1988. She was the first female president of Pat Harrison Waterway from 1988-1990. From 1993-1998, she was chief executive officer and president of Ventures International, a research and development company based in Hattiesburg.

When there was an outbreak of cholera in Guyana, the Food and Health Administration called asking if there was anything that the company could do to help. The company was asked to head a task force and the company was asked to join in the effort to wipe out the cholera epidemic in Guyana.

Survivors include her sons, John Stack IV of Collinsville and Hunter Stack of Duback, La.; a sister, Barbara Odom and her husband, Larry, of Collinsville and a brother, Ernest “Hot Shot” Byrd of Bailey.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Ward; parents, Ernest and Frances Byrd.

Pallbearers will be Jerry Smith, Charlie Smith, Ryan Smith, Jimmy White, Cameron White and Stephen Byrd.

Visitation will be Monday from 9 a.m.-10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.



Carrie Mae Jefferson

PHILADELPHIA — Services for Carrie Mae Jefferson will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery in Conehatta. John E. Stephens Chapel Funeral Services is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Jefferson, 79, of Conehatta, died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2007, at Regency Hospital.

Survivors include her son, Wilbert Smith; two sisters; one brother and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.



Melody A. Warren



Graveside services for Melody A. Warren were held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Forest Lawn Cemetery with the Rev. Dr. Malcolm Lewis officiating. Barham Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Warren, 59, of Meridian, died Monday, Jan. 29, 2007, at Rush Foundation Hospital.

Survivors include her children, Robert Warren, Elizabeth Ann Hjelmsted, Andy Quiles and Luis Quiles; her mother, Maryrose Martino; father, Edward Pahl; a sister, Annette Martino and a brother, Albert J. Martino; grandchildren, Nate Warren, Kali Warren, Larry Hjelmsted, Nicole Hjelmsted, Matthew Quiles, Stacy Quiles, Branden Quiles, Danielle Quiles and Cassandra Quiles; an aunt, Annette Rodrigue and two nieces.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Jo Swol, her step-father, Albert J. Martino and a grandson, Christopher Fragoso.
