Herbert A. McKee

MERIDIAN —

    Services for Herbert A. “Shorty” McKee will be held Wednesday, at 10 a.m., at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Gilbert Prince and Dr. Will Dowling officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery with Robert Barham Family Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

    Mr. McKee, 82, of Meridian, died Sunday, March 3, 2013, at Infinity Hospice. He was a Marine and served in the Korean Conflict. Mr. McKee retired from the Air National Guard as a Senior Master Sergeant. He worked as a civil engineer for the state at Key Field and he was active in the Hamasa Shrine and the VFW Post 79. Mr. McKee was also an active member of Andrew Chapel United Methodist Church. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

    Survivors include his daughters: Brenda Kennedy and husband Ken of Meridian, and Sandy Overstreet and husband Donnie of Marion; grandchildren: Stacy Kent of Helena, Ala., William “Tre” Barton and wife Gail of Mt. Holly, N.C., Kimberly Mayfield and husband Monroe of Meridian, and Bridget Purdy and husband John of Meridian; step-grandchildren: Robin Lynch and husband Kevin of Citronelle, Ala., and Greg Overstreet and wife Lisa of Grand Bay, Ala.; seven great-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; and, numerous nieces and nephews.

    He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Sadie McKee; brother, Lonnie McKee; and sister, Wilma Jordan.

    The family request memorials be made to Andrew Chapel United Methodist Church.

    Pallbearers will be William “Tre” Barton, John Purdy, Monroe Mayfield, Ben Shirley, Benny Copeland and Harold Seaver.

    Visitation will be today, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m., at the funeral home.
