Thomas Henry Kirkwood

WAYNESBORO —     Funeral services for Thomas Henry Kirkwood will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 4, 2013 from the Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church with Rev. Randy James, Rev. Roger Flowers and Rev. Steve Campbell officiating. Interment will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery.

    Mr. Kirkwood, 65, a resident of Waynesboro, was born Monday, December 15, 1947 in Pensacola, FL and passed from this life Friday, March 1, 2013 at University Medical Center in Jackson. Mr. Kirkwood was a member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church. He served in the U.S. Marine Corp and Army National Guard, and was a Veteran of Vietnam Era, Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm. He was a Purple Heart recipient; he was a member of Military Order of Purple Heart, Marine Corp League and other various military organizations. He served for over 35 years as Postmaster with the U.S. Postal Service.

    Mr. Kirkwood is preceded in death by his father, John Kenneth Kirkwood; mother, Mittie Skipper McIlwain; step-father, Robert L. McIlwain; half-sister, Pat Lodge. He is survived by his wife, Linda M. Kirkwood of Waynesboro; 2 sons, Thomas Kyle Kirkwood of Meridian, Kenneth Mauldin Kirkwood (Christen) of Boston, MA; brother, John S. Kirkwood of Waverly, AL; half-brother, Kenneth S. Kirkwood of Waverly, AL; step-brother, Robert L. McIlwain, Jr. of Pascagoula; half-sister, Miriam Ann Syler of West Point, GA.

    Visitation for Mr. Kirkwood will be held from 10 a.m. to 11a.m., Monday, March 4, 2013 in the Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church on the Dyess Bridge Road in Wayne County.
