MPD makes arrests in recent cases

MERIDIAN —     Two people wanted on felony charges in Ohio people were arrested in Meridian earlier this week.

Meridian Police Department Capt. Dean Harper, commander of the department's Criminal Investigation Division, said Wednesday afternoon that patrol officers arrested Desiree L. Daniels and Julius L. Johnson, both of Cleveland, and charged them as fugitives from justice.

Harper said Daniels was picked up Sunday after a traffic stop and that Johnson was taken into custody the following day after it was discovered he had outstanding warrants for his arrest.

Harper said both Daniels and Johnson are in custody at the Lauderdale County jail pending transport back to Ohio to face charges there. Harper did not reveal what their offenses were in Ohio.

In an unrelated case, Harper said police Tuesday night arrested 19-year-old Darnell L. Hare of Meridian. Hare was charged with possession of a stolen firearm, Harper said. Hare's bond was set at $25,000.

Harper said the firearm was stolen locally in 2010 and was found by officers during a suspicious persons call by a concerned citizen. Hare's arrest is the third arrest in the past week by MPD officers that was the direct result of a citizen's tip.
