J. C. Mayfield

MERIDIAN —

    Jackson — J. C. Mayfield, 97, formerly of Jackson and Meridian, died Feb. 7, 2013, in Bartlett, Tenn.  

    Born June 24, 1915, in Smith County near Mize, Miss., he was the eldest of five children. He retired from the Jackson, Miss., Fire Department in 1973 having risen to the rank of District Chief.  

    He leaves two daughters, Patsy Thweatt (Jack) of Gadsden, Ala., and J. Carolyn Rice (Jerry) of Lakeland, Tenn.; three grandchildren, Kim Thweatt Smedley (Tom) of Montgomery, Ala., John Thweatt (Kimberly) of Cropwell, Ala., and Christina Rice of Cordova, Tenn.; four great grandchildren, Hannah, Hope, Hollie and Kimberly Joy Thweatt of Cropwell, Ala.; brother Cliff Mayfield (Ethelyn “Sis”) of Clinton, Miss.; sister Wilma McAlpin (Herman) of Calvert City, Ky.; and brother-in-law James “Will” Lowery of Clinton, Miss.

    Services will be Wednesday Feb. 13, 2013, at Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home in Clinton, Miss., with visitation at 10 a.m. followed by a memorial service and celebration of his life at 11 a.m. Burial following at Cedar Lawn Cemetery in Jackson.
