Carolyn Corn Smith

MERIDIAN —



    QUITMAN - Services for Carolyn Corn Smith will be Wednesday, at 11 a.m., at First United Methodist Church, Quitman, with Rev. Mark Covington and Rev. Jim Wall officiating. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Quitman, with Wright's Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

    Mrs. Smith, 86, of Quitman, died Saturday, July 14, 2012, at Anderson Regional Medical Center. She lived in Quitman for 59 years. Mrs. Smith was a member of First United Methodist Church in Quitman where she was also a member of the Adult Sunday School Class. She was a former member of Samuel Dale Chapter of the DAR and was past president of Quitman Woman's Club. Mrs. Smith was the author of Views by Bitsy Pepys in the Clarke County Tribune, Quitman and was a graduate of The University of Alabama.  She was a retired social worker with Clarke County Department of Human Services.

    She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Ralph Austin Smith Jr. of Quitman; daughters: Carol Jane "C.J." Patton and her husband Roy of Quitman, and Nan Proctor and her husband Dan of Knoxville, Tenn.; brother, Jimmy Corn and his wife Jeanne of Meridian; sisters: Rebecca Kramer of Fairhope, Ala., and Barbara Dean of Meridian; sister-in-law, Betty Corn of Lauderdale; brother-in-law, Walter M. Smith and his wife Charlotte of Sanford, Fla.; grandchildren: Laura Patton, Ginny Patton Sargeant and her husband Cris, Ruthie Proctor Edwards and her husband Ian, and Becca Proctor; caregivers: Ruby Knox and Christine McCalleb; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Erion Corn; brother, Tommy Corn; and special aunt and uncle, Myrtle and Lamar Robinson.

    Pallbearers will be Stevie Bateman, Raymond Heard, Buford Rochester, George Sellers Jr., Brett Smith and George Williams.

    In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to First United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 137, Quitman, MS; The Gideons or Clarke County Relay for Life. 

    Friends may sign online guest register at wrightsfuneral.com.

    Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.
