Luna Gray Newell

MERIDIAN —     Services for Luna Gray Newell will be held Sunday, at 2:30 p.m., at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Jimmie Smithey and Dr. Gary Blair officiating. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery with Robert Barham Family Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

    Mrs. Newell, 95, of Meridian, died Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013, at Anderson Regional Medical Center. She was an active member of Central Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for 60 years and was also active in the choir. Mrs. Newell will be remembered as a loving wife and devoted mother caring for her son Wayne.

    Survivors include her daughter, Joy Whitlock of Meridian; son, Roderick Newell, MD of Long Beach; grandchildren: Tamara McMullan and husband Justin of Meridian, Sarah Elizabeth Brock of New Orleans, La., and, Brock Newell of Biloxi; great-grandchildren: Kinsley Brock, Kaylen Brock and Miley Kate McMullan; sister, Nora Patrick of Madison; and, nephews: Leonard Vaughan and wife Bonnie of Rochester, N.Y., and Stan Patrick of Madison.

    She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmo Newell; son, Wayne Elmo Newell; parents, Samuel and Beadie Gray; and, seven brothers and sisters.

    The family requests memorials be made to Central Baptist Church.

    Pallbearers will be Justin McMullan, Roderick Newell, Mike Newell, Bobby Boardman, Raymond Mollett and Bruce Gibson.

    Visitation will be Sunday, from 1 p.m. until 2:30 p.m., at the funeral home.
