Rachel Green Maddox Eastman

MERIDIAN —

    HOUSTON, Texas – Services for Rachel Green Maddox Eastman will be held Thursday, at 10 a.m., at Waltrip Funeral Directors Chapel. Waltrip Funeral Directors of Houston is in charge of arrangements.

    Mrs. Eastman died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013. Rachel was born in Laurel, Miss., in 1918 and married William Finley “Sarge” Eastman in 1935. They had three sons and lived on many bases as Finley served our country in the U.S. Army. When Sarge retired from service, they resided in Meridian, Miss. until his death in 1991. Rachel moved to Boiling Springs for several years and then to Katy, Texas for the remainder of her life. Rachel put herself through nursing school and worked at Rush’s Hospital for many years. She was a strong woman with an unbending determination and her sense of humor will be missed.

    Survivors include two sons and their wives: Gordon and Jan Eastman of Katy, Texas, and Dr. Anthony and Joetta Eastman of Boiling Springs, N.C.; and, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

    She was preceded in death by her husband, William F. Eastman and her eldest son, Larry Eastman.

    Visitation will be Wednesday, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., at the funeral home.
