Freddie “Jack” Turner

MERIDIAN —

    Services for Freddie “Jack” Turner will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home Chapel, with BrotherS Drew Dabbs and Jack Kern officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery.

    Mr. Turner, 70, originally from Conehatta and a resident of Meridian since 1961, died Friday, March 8, 2013, at his home with his family at his side after a lengthy illness of cancer. Jack was a member of First Baptist Church of Marion, a member of Andrews Chapel Masonic Lodge AND a retired member of the 186th Air National Guard. He worked at NAS Meridian from 1961-2004.

    Jack was an avid dirt track racing fan and enjoyed many Saturday night races at Whynot Motorsports Park. He was owner/operator of Jack’s Barber Shop in Meridian from 1976-2011.

    Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Eloise Turner of Meridian; son, Billy Turner and his wife, Kristen, of McKinney, Texas; daughter, Wendy Turner Fisher and her husband, Ronald, of Meridian; grandchildren, Ana Turner of McKinney, and Ally Fisher and Colton Fisher, both of Meridian; mother, Earline Turner of Meridian; brother, Harold Turner and his wife, Sue, of Petal; sisters-in-law, Dot Turner of Newton, Gwen Hollingsworth, Rachel Clark and Charlotte Small of Meridian; and several nieces, nephews and numerous cousins and friends.

    He was preceded in death by his father, Lee Turner; brother, Gene Turner; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Charlie and Clara Morgan.

    In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to First Baptist Marion Building Fund or the Cancer Patient Benevolence Fund at Anderson Cancer Center.

    Pallbearers will be Roger Shirley, Vic Choney, Taylor Davis, Jackie Pace, Jerome Sharp and Mike Engall.

    Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Kelley, Joe Wade Limerick and Doug McElhenney.

    The family would like to thank Dr. Gary Gibson, Hospice Compassus, Gloria Boyd, his nurse who was a loving and caring person to Jack during this difficult time, and Solace Medical Equipment for their wonderful love and care for us during this difficult time. Thanks also to Dr. John Voss and his nurses, Lisa and Hallie of Andersons Cancer Center, for their extraordinary care.

    Visitation will held today, from 5 p.m.-8 p.m., at the funeral home, and one hour prior to service.
