Horace D. Satcher

OPELIKA, Ala. — Services for Horace D. Satcher will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Auburn First Baptist Church. Visitation will be at the church at 1 p.m. Fredericks Funeral Home of Opelika, Alabama is in charge of arrangements.

    Horace D. Satcher, 75, of Auburn, AL, died June 29, 2012 at Coosa Valley Medical Center in Sylacauga, AL. He is survived by his wife Carol Lindsey of Auburn, their daughters Lydia Satcher of Auburn and Leah Satcher of Birmingham, AL, and one grandson, John David Whitworth, of Auburn. He is also survived by his mother in law Betty Lindsey, of Bay Minette, AL; three brothers-in-law, Walt Lindsey, of Bay Minette; B.C. May of Quitman, MS; and Charles Dixon of Mobile, AL; and numerous nieces and nephews. Horace treasured his family and he will be greatly missed.

    Mr. Satcher was born October 28, 1936 in Clarke County, Mississippi to Coley Satcher, Sr. and Ethel Maud Smith Satcher. He was preceded in death by his parents and seven siblings, Lillian S. Myrick, Coley Satcher, Jr., Elsie S. May, Helen S. Blackwell, infant Lydia E. Satcher, twin brother Harvey G. Satcher, and Estelle S. Dixon.  

    Mr. Satcher was a social worker who spent most of his professional career with the Alabama Department of Human Resources. He began as a case worker in Mobile County, Ala. and retired in Montgomery as the state Director of Child Support Enforcement. He was honored to be able to serve others through his work.
