Virginia Alice Scott, 84, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Oct. 7, 2012. Her remains will be buried in a graveside service at Cedar Lawn Cemetery, Scooba, on Saturday, at 11 a.m. Anyone wishing to attend the service is welcome. Stephens Funeral Home of DeKalb may be contacted for information.
Born in Marion on Oct. 22, 1927, she graduated from Meridian Senior High School as a member of the class of 1944. She went on to receive both an undergraduate and a master’s degree from Mississippi State University. She spent a number of years as a homemaker in Starkville, then as a school teacher in Augusta, Ga., before retiring to spend the final 19 years of her life in Orlando Fla.
Survivors include her two sons: Alan Vance of Orlando Fla., and Stephen Vance of Chapel Hill, N.C.; and two grandchildren: Mona Vance and Alexander Vance.
She was preceded in death by her two brothers: Jimmy and Charley Scott, both of whom are buried in Magnolia Cemetery in Meridian; and by her sister, Sarah (Scott) Burns, who is buried in High Point, N.C.
