PHILADELPHIA —     Andrew Jerome “Red” Duncan, 93, died at home on Tuesday, August 21, 2012. Born in Neshoba County to James A. “Chap” and Mary E. “May” Guthrie Duncan, he lived there until he joined the United States Army. While in the military, he served during World War II and the Korean War; he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Army Occupation Medal and the Good Conduct Medal with three loops. When he retired from the U.S. Army as Master Sergeant, he moved his family back to Mississippi.

    Specializing in refrigeration and air conditioning, Andrew worked as a federal employee at Meridian Naval Air Station in the maintenance department. After retiring from the civil service, he stayed active in the community. He was a faithful member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, V.F.W., American Legion and NARFE; Red was also instrumental in establishing the Tucker Volunteer Fire Department.

    Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Jean “Dot” Turner Duncan, the love of his life to whom he was married for 70 years; children: Regina Bosarge, Susan Harris, Vickey Timmons, and Steve and Lisa Duncan; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and, his only surviving sibling, John “Pat” Duncan of Moss Point.

    Red Duncan loved to laugh and have a good time. Always willing to lend a hand to family and friends in the community, he will be loved and missed by many.

    Pallbearers will be Frank Duncan, Fidelis Skipper, Mike Smith, Mike Schnauder, Stu Bosarge, Paul Duncan, Jimmy Duncan, and Matt Smith.

    The funeral Mass will be held Friday, at 10 a.m., at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Tucker, with Father Bob Goodyear officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be today, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., at McClain-Hays Funeral Home, with Rosary at 7 p.m. McClain-Hays Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
