Patty Jean Bates

PHILADELPHIA —     Services for Patty Jean Bates will be held today, at 11 a.m., at McClain-Hays Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Alex Lawson, Rev. Mack Alford and Dr. Wayne Hill officiating. Burial will be in Eastlawn Cemetery with McClain-Hays Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

    Mrs. Bates, 78, died Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013, at Rush Foundation Hospital in Meridian. She was a native and lifelong resident of Philadelphia. Mrs. Bates was a member of Beacon Street Baptist Church. She worked at Hays Drug Store for a few years and was employed by Molpus Grocery for 50 years. She had worked at Vowell’s Market Place for the past several years.

    Survivors include her daughter, Joy Bates Walker and her husband Barry of Philadelphia; granddaughters: Kelly Walker Cheatham and her husband David of Starkville, and Jennifer Walker Phillips and her husband Tracy of Philadelphia; and, great-granddaughters: Addy Walker Phillips, Brooklyn Jane Cheatham and Caroline Grace Cheatham.

    Mrs. Bates was preceded in death her husband, Joe Bates; and parents, Jack and Estelle Wells.

    Pallbearers will be Tracy Phillips, David Cheatham, Ronnie Jenkins, Larry Smith, Bud Waddell and

Jarrod Simmons.
