John S. Smith, Jr.

MERIDIAN —

    Graveside service for John S. Smith, Jr. will be Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Mississippi State Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery with Bro. Milton Smith and Pastor Sarita Rainey officiating. Robert Barham Family Funeral home is in charge of arrangements.

    Mr. Smith, 82, of Meridian, died Friday Sept. 14, 2012 at Rush Hospital.

    He was a long and faithful member of Gospel Lighthouse Church. He retired from Southern Natural Gas Company. He served his country in the Army and Navy. He was also a member of Son’s of the Confederacy.

    He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Sara Smith of Meridian; son, Johnny Smith and wife Donna of Meridian; daughter, Sarita Rainey and husband Brad of Meridian; daughter, Mary Skipper and husband Wallace of House; daughter, Susan Smith and Chad Peavy; and son, Luke Smith and wife Christina of Fairbanks, Alaska. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Tabitha Brunel, Christopher Smith, Layla Neyman, Cara Shirley, JoAnna  McCraney, Scott Rainey, Bradford Rainey, Lindsey Rainey, Amy Pass, Joshua Smith, Kristian Smith, Sara Ashley Smith, and Nikkole Smith, and 15 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

    He is preceded in death by his parents John and Clara Smith, his sister Virginia Irby and grandson, Jonathan Anthony.

    Visitation will be today, Sunday, Sept. 16, 2012, 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
