Investigators believe two Wiggins women separately embezzled hundreds of thousands of dollars from their employers over several years.
The Sun Herald reports (http://bit.ly/XxJHv1) 38-year-old Veronica Morse, former lead teller at The Bank of Wiggins, was arrested Monday on a charge of embezzlement.
Stone County sheriff's investigator Eddie Rogers says 38-year-old Tina Gillespie, the executive secretary at the Stone County Economic Development Partnership, also faces a charge of embezzlement.
Rogers said Morse is accused of skimming $162,000 from accounts and falsifying tickets to make it look like the money was there.
He says Gillespie allegedly wrote a few hundred checks to herself on Stone County EDP accounts since 2010. He says many of the checks were for $5,000.
It was unclear whether the women have attorneys.
