JACKSON, Miss. — A man charged in the 2010 death of Jackson Police Officer Glen Agee has pleaded guilty.
WAPT TV reports Latwan Smith pleaded guilty Thursday to charges of manslaughter and being a felon with a firearm. He had been facing a capital murder charge in connection with Agee's death.
Smith was sentenced to 40 years with 10 years suspended.
Police say Smith was accused of shooting Agee with the officer's service weapon after an altercation.
Agee and his partner were transporting Smith to the Hinds County Detention Center on Aug. 6, 2010 when Smith escaped from the patrol car.
Smith ran into the woods off Highway 18, and the officers followed.
Agee was found with gunshot wounds to his face.
