Man indicted in death of girlfriend

PASCAGOULA, Miss. — A Helena man who told authorities he shot and killed his girlfriend after the two fought while under the influence of alcohol has been indicted on a felony charge of murder.

The Sun Herald reports Dennis Lee Hurley is accused in the June 9, 2011, shooting death of Beverly Diana Davis.

Hurley was with relatives when he walked into the Pascagoula Police Department in June 2011, saying he had killed his girlfriend and later ditched the murder weapon in the Pensacola area.

Pascagoula police reported the incident to Jackson County sheriff's deputies, who went to Davis' home and found her slumped over on a couch near a front doorway with a gunshot wound to the chest area.

It is unclear whether Hurley has an attorney.
