Man sentenced in fatal crash

JACKSON, Miss. — A Hinds County Circuit Court judge has sentenced a 20-year-old Jackson man who caused a crash that killed a Madison-Ridgeland Academy teacher in 2010.

The Clarion-Ledger reports Ethan Van Sice pleaded guilty Monday to vehicular homicide in the death of 35-year-old Leigh Anne Ward of Jackson.

Circuit Judge Bill Gowan sentenced Van Sice to 20 years with 14 years suspended.

On Aug. 17, 2010, Van Sice drove his truck through a yard. After knocking over a stop sign, Police say the vehicle made it back to the street and slammed into a car driven by Ward.

Ward was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Van Sice will be on probation for five years after his release from prison.
