Sturgis to look at bike rally proposal

STURGIS, Miss. —

STURGIS, Miss. (AP) — The Sturgis Board of Aldermen will hold a workshop Feb. 12 to develop a counterproposal to bring a bike rally back to the city.

The Starkville Daily News reports (http://bit.ly/11fpUBV) that once a proposal is developed the board will ask the Sturgis South Bike Rally Board for a meeting.

The city has received a proposal from rally organizers for 2013 event.

The rally was canceled in 2011 and 2012 in a dispute over funds for city services including security, sanitation and trash collection.

The Sturgis aldermen rejected several revisions of a rally contract throughout winter and spring of 2012 before rejecting a final revision.

Organizers say the rally, once an Oktibbeha County staple for 14 straight years, has been a dependable source of revenue for local hotels and restaurants.
