Woman pleads guilty sexual assault

COLUMBUS, Miss. —

A Columbus woman has pleaded guilty in Lowndes County Circuit Court to the sexual assault of a 14-year-old boy.

The Commercial Dispatch reports that 25-year-old Kimberly Smith pleaded guilty this past week before Circuit Judge Lee Howard.

Howard gave her a 20-year suspended sentence. She also was placed on five years' probation.

Smith was arrested in May of 2011.

Authorities say Smith was a family friend and had moved in with the boy and his ailing mother to help tend to the sick woman.

Authorities say she was living with the family at the time the assault occurred.
