JACKSON, Miss. — The state Court of Appeals has upheld the verdict of a Leflore County man convicted in 2006 in the fatal shooting of his son, longtime Jackson State radio announcer Bob Carpenter.
Bob Carpenter was shot to death at the family's home in Greenwood on June 11, 2004. He died from a single gunshot wound to the chest.
Walter Carpenter, now 81, was convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison.
Prosecutors said the shooting occurred during an argument.
On appeal, Walter Carpenter claimed he acted in self-defense. He also said prosecutors should have not been allowed to call his wife to testify about the argument.
