Man gets 9 years for assault with crowbar

BAY ST. LOUIS, Miss. — A 29-year-old Hancock County man has been ordered to serve nine years for hitting a longtime friend in the head with a crowbar during an argument over a woman.

Assistant District Attorney Matthew Burrell tells The Sun Herald on Monday that Circuit Judge John Gargiulo sentenced Aaron Dale Burge as an habitual offender for the assault of Sept. 14, 2011.

Burrell says the blow fractured his friend's skull and the man required brain surgery.

Burge had been set for trial on a charge of aggravated assault, but changed his plea. He faced a maximum of 20 years in prison.
