JACKSON, Miss. — Police say a 43-year-old Jackson woman is dead after being caught in the crossfire of an altercation.

Hinds County Coroner Sharon Grisham-Stewart tells The Clarion-Ledger Areba Lee was pronounced dead in the emergency room at the University of Mississippi Medical Center Tuesday afternoon. Grisham-Stewart says Lee had been shot once in the abdomen.

Police spokeswoman Colendula Green says officers responded to a call at 3:34 p.m. Tuesday where two men were in some kind of altercation and firing rounds at each other. Green says Lee was hit in the crossfire.

Police are still searching for the men involved in the shooting.
