Mississippi records first death from Isaac

PICAYUNE —

PICAYUNE, Miss. (AP) — A tow truck driver was killed Thursday morning in Picayune when a tree fell on his truck, the first fatality in Mississippi from Tropical Storm Isaac.

Pearl River County Coroner Derek Turnage has identified the victim as 62-year-old Gregory Alan Parker of Picayune.

Turnage says Parker was killed when a tree fell on his truck while returning from an unsuccessful call.

Turnage says Parker had gone out to tow a pickup truck that was stuck in a ditch on Mississippi Highway 43 North and abandoned by its driver. He says Parker decided it was too muddy and the wind was too strong to attempt the tow.
