VICKSBURG, Miss. —
Prosecutors are looking for a facility where a mental evaluation ordered by a judge last year can be performed for a Warren County teenager charged in the death of her stepmother.
District Attorney Ricky Smith tells the Vicksburg Post that he is looking for some place other than the State Hospital at Whitfield. He says the State Hospital has a backlog.
Defense attorney Marshall Sanders has been seeking another mental evaluation of the girl, now 15, since last year.
Authorities say the body of Michelle Vega was found May 2, 2011, in the family home in Vicksburg. Authorities say neighbors reported seeing the girl drive away from the home minutes before the body was found.
The girl was arrested in Greenville six days later.
