Mother sentenced to house arrest

COLUMBIA, Miss. — A mother who was found guilty of refusing to cooperate with law enforcement officials seeking her son has been sentenced to one year of house arrest.

The Hattiesburg American reports 53-year-old Nilia Victoria Jeanfreau of Columbia could have received up to five years in prison, but 15th District Circuit Court Judge Prentiss Harrell chose the lesser sentence on Tuesday.

She was convicted July 24 by a Marion County jury of hindering prosecution of her son.

Law enforcement had been looking for Jean Pierre Jeanfreau after warrants had been issued for his arrest on drug-related charges.
