BRANDON, Miss. — Mother stops son from robbing store
BRANDON, Miss. (AP) — Police in Brandon say a convenience store robbery was stopped when the suspect's mother intervened.
The Tuesday morning robbery attempt was reported at a store on Highway 80.
Brandon detectives say a man approached the cashier with a bag of chips. He pulled out a gun and demanded money when the clerk opened the cash
The man's mother was also in the store and saw the robbery attempt, police said. She ran over to her son and stopped the robbery, according to police.
After telling her son to leave the store, police said, the woman told the clerk the gun wasn't real and asked the clerk not to call the police.
The pair drove to Pelahatchie with another woman in the car. They were stopped by an officer.
Police say they found a plastic gun in the car that looked real.
Twenty-two-year-old Roy Mitchell of Flowood was arrested and charged with attempted armed robbery. His mother was not charged.
Another woman in the car was arrested on an outstanding warrant.
