OXFORD, Miss. —
Court records show ex-state trooper Christopher Gary Hughes of Tupelo will plead guilty Feb. 25 to a federal charge.
The Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal reports the 40-year-old Hughes was due for trial in March on one count that he violated the civil rights of a woman he allegedly beat more than five years ago in the Lee County Jail.
He initially pleaded not guilty to the charge, but Thursday his March 11 trial was canceled with notice of a guilty-plea hearing before Senior Judge Neal B. Biggers.
Hughes was a decorated trooper with the Mississippi Highway Patrol until shortly before his October indictment.
The indictment accuses him of stomping a woman, while he worked as a trooper, in October 2007.
