Plea hearing Monday in 'execution-style' slaying

BRANDON, Miss. —

Attorneys say a man is expected to plead guilty in the "execution-style" slaying of a Rankin County woman.

Walter Burton is charged in the September 2011 death of 36-year-old Leslie Sheppard Doame.

District Attorney Michael Guest and Burton's lawyer, Bill Labarre, said a change of plea hearing is Monday. Labarre declined further comment.

Authorities say Doame was shot in the head "execution-style" during a burglary at her parent's house near Brandon so she wouldn't be a witness to the crime.

With the blessing of Doame's family, Guest told Burton and another suspect, Jermaine Tyler, that he wouldn't to seek the death penalty if they pleaded guilty and were sentenced to life without parole.

Tyler pleaded guilty and was sentenced in April.
